Saturday Snapshot - Daylilies

My daylilies have been blooming like crazy. We moved four plants from our old house as we heard that deer don't bother them. So far, so good.

The one pictured below has just finished blooming. (I took this about two weeks ago). This morning, I did the final deadheading and cut back all of the stocks...75 in total. I think each one had somewhere between 4-8 flowers on it. That means there were between 300-600 blooms!!!  Furthermore, this type of daylily will bloom a second time, although so far, I haven't seen any new shoots.   The photo below shows finished blooms, open blooms, and buds waiting to open tomorrow or the next day.

My other daylilies (here's one) aren't quite prolific, but they are also doing well.

  1. Love them, mine are not doing well this year. I moved them last fall and they're not doing so good in their new spot.

  5. How delightful to see your daylilies in full boom. I cut back half of mine this morning. The rest are still blooming. This seemed to be a good year for them.

  6. The heat has really gotten to our daylilies this summer - they're not as pretty or prolific as they usually are. Yours are gorgeous!

  7. Here in Yorkshire we just have two small clumps but they do what they can. They keep offering up a new bud every few days.
You have an astonishing number considering your climate - Manitoba must be white-over for weeks (but your summers are probably better than here, just under the moor and with sea winds rushing through.
Thanks for visiting 199 steps just now.

  9. I didn't know deer won't eat daylillies. We had such a hard time landscaping our house because we had voracious deer in our neighborhood. I would have loved some of those in my yard!

Thanks so much for your comment. I really appreciate it. Unfortunately, I've been getting lots of spam comments, so I'm turning on word verification to help keep spammers away. I know it's a pain; I don't like it either. Hopefully, in time I'll be able to turn it off again. Thank you!
